To strengthen his army, Dara Shikoh first went to Lahore and then to Multan, Thatta which is now called Sindh. After Sindh, he crossed the Rann of Kutch and went to Kathiawar, where he met Shah Nawaz Khan who was the Governor of Gujarat. And he helped Dara from his treasury and created a new army. But nothing was going to happen with this petty governor, so he met Maharaja Jaswant Singh, who was a powerful Rajput of Mewar, and Jaswant Singh also helped Dara Shikoh, but when Battle of Deorai happened near Ajmer on 11 March 1659, he again lost the battle, after being beaten well, he made a mistake which was the last mistake of his life. So Dara Shikoh had saved Junaid Khan from Shah Jahan’s Atrocities, then Dara thought that how many times have I saved your life from my father, now it’s your turn…
But Malik Jiwan, Who was Afghan Chieftain instead of asylum, caught Dara Shikoh and arrested him…informed Aurangzeb that I have caught him…quickly come to Malik Jeevan Palace & take him away.
Aurangzeb’s army came, made Dara Shikoh sit on a dirty elephant and then took him to Delhi & tied him in chains and paraded him around Delhi. Nothing can be more disrespectful than this for any prince.
Now you can’t kill like this, He is not a ordinary criminal, Son of Shah Jahan and Dara Shikoh was also very popular among the people…in the name of “Prince of common people”…Aurangzeb did what is done even today…called Priest of Islam and Some big people of that time called him and said…look sir, this guy is against Islam…or he is a big threat to the public, it is a different matter that Actually, Aurangzeb is in the biggest danger for public in that era but Still on topic.
So the decision has been taken, when it comes to religion, people get angry easily…they don’t even care about the truth…on the night of 30th August 1659, 4 henchmen went and Killed Dara Shikoh infront of his son.
Now all this Ramayana is done, now the real fun will come… As you all know that Aurangzeb was mentally Disturbed, so he himself verify Dara Shikoh Death.… Further story is well-written by Niccolao Manucci, the Venetian traveler who worked in the Mughal court, has written down the details of Dara Shikoh’s death.
According to him, upon Dara’s capture, Aurangzeb ordered his men to have his head brought up to him and he inspected it thoroughly to ensure that it was Dara indeed. He then further mutilated the head with his sword three times. After which, he ordered the head to be put in a box and presented to his ailing father, Shah Jahan, with clear instructions to be delivered only when the old King sat for his dinner in his prison. The guards were also instructed to inform Shah Jahan that, “King Aurangzeb, your son, sends this plate to let him (Shah Jahan) see that he does not forget him”. Shah Jahan instantly became happy (not knowing what was in store in the box) and uttered, “ Blessed be God that my son still remembers me”. Upon opening the box, Shah Jahan became horrified and fell unconscious.
